Bangalore Chapter
ISAMPE, Bangalore Chapter was formed in the year 2000 to further the activities of the ISAMPE, which has been in existence for nearly two decades. The chapter amongst other things has set itself a modest plan to hold events in the form of lecture demonstration, product presentation and workshops.
On 1st March, 2001 a lecture on "Strength of Notches in Quasi-Brittle Materials" by Dr. L. Dortmans, TNO-TDP, department of Innovative Materials, The Netherlands, was arranged. This was attended nt Chapter Members and the participants of the the Indo-Netherlands Joint Workshop held at NAL. Prof. A.V.Krishnamurthy, Aero Department, IISc., Bangalore, was felicitated on the occasion of his superannuation in 16th March, 2001. On this occasion a highly interactive and lively discussion session with Prof. A.V.Krishnamurthy, on Smart Structure Concepts was held. On 2nd August, 2001 a lecture on Material Process Engineering for Aerospace Application by Dr. Hanan Vengerko, M/s Cytec Fiberite Ltd. U.K. was scheduled and this was well attended.
The first annual general meeting of the Chapter was held on 19th December, 2001 which was well attended. The deliberations of the AGM was followed by a Technical lecture by Prof. M.S.Venkataraman, Director, R&D, Crescent College, Chennia on "Captivating Composites-an Appreciation and an Affiance". The AGM acknowledged the Chapter's efforts towards satisfying the urgent need amongst the Professional Community in Bangalore involved in the Material Processing Engineering.
In the memories on the tragedy of the WTC, New York, a lecture on "Attack on World Trade Centre - An Architect's Perspective" was arranged to throw light on all the aspects of designing / building the sturctures to withstand the attack under different condition. In context of examining the challenges to design and development of modern structural composties including fitting from functioning and enhancement of Structural Integrity, a techincal lecture was delivered on 15th Mar 2002 by Dr. A.V. Srinivasan, Consultant & Adjunct Professor of Engineering & Management, RPI, Hartford, USA. The lecture was titled "Biomimetics : A futuristic look at the past". Dr. Leslie Cohen, Vice President, HITCO composites, USA presented on 15th April, 2002 "Innovative and Highly competitive composie technologies " developed at Hitco. Dr. David Jenson, Director, Case, BYU, USA presented ISO Truss - An Advanced structural techonology as an efficient alternative to the traditional composite structures on 12th July, 2002.
